Thank you all so much. Going tomorrow morning with a written plan and headphones. Wish me luck.

Exactly that. Write your plan, pick a quiet time to start, headphones in, and just go. You belong there as much as anyone. We're all rooting for you.

That's weirdly comforting actually. Everyone's the main character of their own workout, not an audience for mine.

And nobody remembers what anyone else did at the gym yesterday. You could trip over a dumbbell and it'd be forgotten in five minutes. That used to genuinely help me - the stakes are so much lower than they feel.

Start with the basics you're comfortable with and expand slowly. Confidence is built rep by rep. Every session you survive makes the next one easier. In a month you'll walk in like you own the place.

Headphones on, eyes on your own business, and remember everyone in there was a clueless beginner once. The genuinely strong, experienced people are almost always the friendliest - they remember what it was like.

Go at off-peak times at first if you can. Mid-morning or early afternoon the gym is calm and you can take your time learning without feeling crowded. Build confidence there, then busy hours won't faze you.
